Formerly lead singer with The Hoax, now living in exile in Paris, this Englishman with his atypical look, and bearded face has recently released a first album after years of musical experimentation, which have seen him try his hand at hip-hop, electro and rock. “Stories From The Safe House”, released at the end of 2008, appears to have been a significant step in Hugh Coltman’s progress. He delivers some silky folk, whose rich harmonics, backed by some delightful strings and horns, is likely to move listeners for quite some time. With his mellow vocals, he can lay claim to a place among the cream of contemporary songwriters.
