EXARTIKULATIONS a German term that introduces the idea of « dislocation »: whether related to the musical instrument, the music or the composition itself. We will be looking for a form that wavers between order and chaos.
A sound screen 5 meters high comprising of 16 illuminated speakers, a dancer transformed into a choreographed musical instrument and two musicians (viola de gamba, double bass and percussion). With all these elements, Exartikulation creates an audio-visual experience with gesture and movement. With the addition of electronics to the dialogue a dancer is transformed into an autonomous musical instrument, developing and exploring a unique interpretation with the other musician Each interpretation of the musical score is projected onto the sound screen. With the use of special devices, the gestures and sound of this performance are drawn on the screen of speakers like paint on a canvas. Constructed in a space of sound, the performance explores the transformation of the sounds and movements produced on stage into images. The audience is totally immersed in an installation that “shows” sound and all that is audible on stage.
